About Texas Hillel

Texas Hillel at the University of Texas at Austin serves as the vibrant center of Jewish student life on campus and throughout the Austin area. Founded in 1927, this organization has evolved into a comprehensive hub offering over one hundred different activities and programs annually designed to support Jewish undergraduate and graduate students. Texas Hillel provides extensive programming across multiple dimensions of student engagement, including weekly Shabbat services and meals, holiday celebrations, Jewish learning fellowships, and cultural events. The organization facilitates student leadership development through internships, mentoring programs, committee roles, and executive positions that prepare emerging leaders for future service in the Jewish community.

The organization's programming encompasses social justice initiatives rooted in the Jewish values of tzedek (social justice) and tikun olam (repairing the world), with five dedicated committees addressing community needs. Texas Hillel also offers robust Israel engagement opportunities, including cultural programming, weekly discussions, Hebrew language instruction from an Israel Fellow, and travel experiences. With more than 3,000 Jewish students on the UT Austin campus—the largest population in the region—Texas Hillel has earned recognition as the Best Campus Service Organization, Best Campus Political Organization, and Most Outstanding Campus Religious Organization. The organization has also received the Exemplar of Excellence designation from Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life and the prestigious Haber Award for its White Rose Society genocide awareness initiatives.
